Reread House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds recently. Slower than light dramatically increases the scope of the universe, it’s great. The book ends with a 60,000 year car chase across the galaxy, which Star Wars would treat like a quick trip to Walmart.

I always liked this description of the US military in during World War II.
