Apologies, not trying to bait. The UK is also looking at the 1950s as some kind of utopian world. There were problems then as we have problems now. Sinatra, Hope et al. Springs to mind. CEO'S weren't as over remunerated as they are now.
Whilst it is likely true that cooperations paid a fairer share, the biggest earners (and tax avoiders) were the stars from the entertainment industry. I'm also wondering about equality back in the States in the 1950s.
