It's from a brochure for the opening of the Cambridge subway (eventually known as the Boston Red Line) in 1912. It's a fascinating document!

Yeah. They needed to implement Vision Zero policies and it’s easier to create and implement those policies for city-controlled transit operations than for drivers or police

They did the same thing in Amsterdam

The streets over top of the North-South line were redesigned into the “Rode Loeper” or red walkway, prioritizing pedestrian and cycling over automobile traffic, utilizing red pavement for a consistent theme along the corridor
