Breaking news: Nearly a quarter of FBI agents across the country are currently reassigned to immigration enforcement.

The large number of reassignments reflect a vast reshaping of the agency and could put other priorities at risk.

Our cats get into standoffs about exactly who has rights to the hedgehog blanket. when I sent juniorkid the first picture she sent back the second, and she's absolutely right...
Two cats, one tabby and one grey and white, both in meatloaf pose facing each other and scowling while sitting on a white blanket covered with a pattern of hedgehogs. Daffy Duck and Marvin the Martian standing face-to-face on a tiny shattered remnant of a planet yelling at each other....

Uhh.... I've done that too. (accidently gave my wife's phone number, that is, not yours!) Send Phil a sheepish fist bump from me.

logarithmic gradients (i.e., dlogx/dlogy) are some of the most useful and informative things in astronomy, and yet so many students seem deathly afraid of them.....

These two a**holes waiting for (our) dinner.
Our dining room table with two cats, one great and white, one tabby, crouched on the table waiting for us to bring our food.

Oh yeah, that's the one. But after a while the click frequency does drop down a little bit. I did wonder how much my university paid that outside company to have us watch that video, and how much of that came out of my overhead payments.

Hah, I just did that one. Did you have to watch the same fake-chatty staged video that I did? I just muted it and put it in a background tab and every once I while checked it to see if I was supposed to answer a set of insultingly stupid questions to check my knowledge.

Come on, man, how could you pass up writing "A neurologist, a quantitative biologist, and a clinical pharmacist walk into a bar..." to start this post?

Just mistyped "UC Berkeley" and autocorrect tried to change it to "UC Barely" and I'm kind of snickering at that. No offense meant to my UC Barely colleagues, of course....

In my experience, 3rd year undergrad is the most stressful of times for astro/phys students. It was for me, and I've seen it over and over for the students I teach.

Astro-folks, if you are teaching 3rd years, check in on them.....

Certain things get indelibly imprinted in your brain. Whenever I hear the little "dittlee-dee, dittlee-dee" of the Professor Hikita's oscillation overthruster, I am immediately transported back to my undergrad days at Caltech...
A still from the movie "Buckaroo Banzai" where Professor Hikita (Robert Ito) holds a small metallic object, the oscillation overthruster, while Penny Priddy (Ellen Barkin) stares in amazement.

It does make me kind of laugh that Michigan football's top 3 coaches right now -- head coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator -- are named Biff, Chip, and Wink.
