My question is not what would be the most effective lever, but do we see any evidence of any of those levers in the real world? I see:
Regulations? 🤣
Shareholder activism? 🤣 🤣
Public pressure? Yeah there is some of that that seems to be working. www.tmj4.com/news/racine-...

Well let me put the question back to you: What do you think would get them to change it?

You think you know how much China is absolutely SMOKING the OECD in electrotech? I think you'll be surprised.

In Ep. 260, Muyi Yang and @sambutl3r.bsky.social of @ember-energy.org detail how China has become the undisputed global leader in the energy transition, and is helping developing countries to decarbonize far more rapidly than the economic powerhouses of the West.

The first serious research project & paper I wrote (as a junior in high school) was on the protest music of the Vietnam War. Never imagined that would turn out to be so relevant 45 years later.

I have a number of comments about that very thing in the current episode of @transitionshow.bsky.social (Ep. 259) and the one that follows (launching this Wednesday)

TERRORISM EXPERT HERE:

This statement is a clear example of what is known as “State Terrorism”: When the dictatorship will order all instruments of its state security & intelligence apparatus against its own citizens to terrorize the population.

I'm not in the US right now, so just curious: Did any of the major US news networks report on the ICE raid in Chicago at all? Anyone report that they dragged screaming, naked children out of their homes and into the street in handcuffs? And held US citizens in zipties for hours, with no warrants?

Pertissue Fisher came out to the hallway of her apartment in her nightgown to find armed agents yelling “police.”

She had a gun pointed in her face.
She was handcuffed.
She was held until 3 AM before being released.

Fisher isn’t suspected of any crime.
She lives in the building.

Look at this massive parking lot in China, all covered in solar and equipped with EV chargers. Utterly dwarfing anything like it in the US, AFAIK. english.news.cn/20250918/85a...

Yes they do. Which is why America should be transitioning to the cheapest sources of energy around--wind and solar--just as the rest of the world is.

This administration, on the other hand, wants to keep America hooked on the *most expensive* sources of energy: oil, gas, and nuclear.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright: "Reducing the CO2 emissions, that's expensive but really wholly unnecessary. Extremely expensive, very little benefit from that. Again, it's just returning common sense. Americans want affordable energy."

We asked Ed — how do we talk up the benefits of science in the face of government cuts? He told us that's the wrong approach. 🧪

This program is great for @ucalgary.bsky.social @ucalgaryscience.bsky.social students, but its also personally meaningful and an accomplishment I'm (as much as this word gets overused I think) really proud to be a part of in bringing what I believe in to life. calgaryherald.com/opinion/colu...

Exciting to see this program moving forwards. Co-leading the team that developed the curriculum was one of my last roles before my leave so its extra
special to be coming back just as these students are starting. The article says "This is not your grandfather's science degree, by design." and this has a special meaning to me as in fact my grandfather's science degree was in chemistry, and he later ran into pushback as a research as the funding agencies felt his work had too much physics in it to be considered chemistry research. Of course now there is a well established field of physical chemistry, another illustration of how looking back, established fields all had some point at
which they were new or different. It has been less than a decade since he passed away and while he didn't live long enough to see his granddaughter help establish this degree program there is no doubt that his influence - in science, and as a staunch feminist - contributed to it in some ways. So while it very much isn't the kind of degree he was granted, l like to think that for me it is in some small way, it is exactly my grandfather's
science degree.

We are throwing the climate under the bus because a handful of tech billionaires are gamblers, betting that they’re not going to be the ones holding the bag when this bubble pops.
