I’ve always said this has Lynch undetones. It’s my fave b&w Hitchcock. The small town life, slightly over enthusiastic mum, cynical little sister, mum and dad being so nice and suburban and cosy. The Hitchcock idea of the worm inside the apple, the evil behind the everyday, really shines through.

I watched this one for the first time in ages, over Christmas. It’s awful, but at least it’s entertaining. I can think of many more stories less enjoyable than this one.

I loved the Mrs Bailey story (other than Jess Conrad). The episode that begins with her in her chalet, curtains billowing, traffic noise echoing, was v melodramatic. And when she seduced/slapped the farmhand!
