Curculionidae of the World Online has moved to a new URL:

The old URL can still be accessed.

We are working on a better and more detailed representation of the relationships between weevils and their host plants. Expect some really nice things in the near future!

Are you spotting orchid rosettes in your area?
Would you like to be able to recognise native orchids before they come into bloom?

Not good at fungus ID. It's been suggested elsewhere that this specimen on a pile of rotting Reed at #ThamesRdWetland @thames21.bsky.social on 3/1/26 could be Entoloma sp.,or a Lepista sordida (rather than Pseudoclitocybe cyathiformis). Thoughts welcome, tho may be impossible from just photos.

Seedling Slender Thistle (Carduus tenuiflorus) 3/1. Species on new London NRS axiophyte list. Grew in gravelly substrate railway end #ThamesRdWetland @thames21.bsky.social Lost there as organic content rose. Persists on rill roadside grit/dirt outside fenceline, but vulnerable to council strimmers🙁

2025 was the year of the pseudoscorpion as far as I'm concerned. I managed to see 14 species in Norfolk, mostly by cycling round to various churchyards but I also got a lift out to a few places by car. Over 100 churchyards visited by bicycle though. Photo montage of species, map of 2025's records.

Three @thames21.bsky.social volunteers at a sunny cold #ThamesRdWetland 3/1. 12.5 person-hrs work. Ice prevented clearing previously cut Reed from H2O, so mainly pruned shrubs to restore sunlight to key reptile habitat. Linnet a new site record, tho species has very probably visited before.

Dark purple-skinned (black-looking) #Tomato from seed of fruit bought in Gravesend deli. Grown both outdoors (struggled to set fruit at 1st - hot + dry) and in unheated greenhouse 2025. None 100% coloured up (esp on bottoms) but went in late. Flavour OK with salt. Mainly cooked.

Fairly hot Chilli 'Kristian', grown in unheated greenhouse last year. Started a bit late. Some have only gone half yellow (and half green) despite being brought indoors some weeks ago, but these are fully ripe. #chilli

Fed up with fireworks. They're also deliberate littering. This from my garden, 2/1. Back when I was young (+fireworks were couple of nights/yr + WAAAY quieter) the debris was usually a thickish card tube and a wooden stick. Now it' s yet more plastic pollution.
