Cares about politics. Elitist asshole about bands and clothes and books. Trying to not age into an embarrassing stereotype of a Brooklyn hipster but I'm sure that ship sailed when I saw Parquet Courts live. Trying to find the energy to write things.
No one better argue with anyone ever the fuck again that this isn’t a campaign of ethnic cleansing

Years ago I stumbled across some research into legal concealed carry permit holders that found that their threat perception is dramatically and measurably higher when they’re carrying a gun than when they are not

I think about that a lot

Lovingly signed,
A constituent who is tired of calling your office begging your staff (or voicemail) to tell you to do your job and who cannot wait to vote against you in a primary

Just fucking impeach here. Christ sakes this isn’t hard—either she should be impeached or she shouldn’t (AND SHE FUCKING SHOULD), what the administration thinks is irrelevant

Stop abdicating your constitutional fucking duties you dumb fuck
January 27, 2026 at 7:45 PM
I'm still stuck on the basic idea that if this is what the government does every congressperson of conscious should refuse to be a part of it. They should be making human chains in front of DHS offices and driveways, standing between BP's guns and citizens on the street. Meet the fucking moment.

haha, Chuck Schumer didn't get to the top of the Dem dogpile by listening to people with the political instincts to go from 0% name recognition to defeating the scion of a storied political dynasty inside of six months.

He got there thanks to his steadfast commitment to eat shit all day every day

Except it’s just like the impoundment fight—when you accept the trumpian premise that there’s any rational world where JD Vance saying ICE has complete immunity gives it to them you’ve already lost.

A DoJ that tells agents to ignore the law isn’t one I trust to be bound by a different, newer law

I am really unclear on how “start respecting the fourth amendment” is a winning demand and will have more power to force behavioral change than the actual fourth amendment.

Or any of the other amendments for that matter
January 27, 2026 at 1:09 PM
The political problem is twofold—first every democrat should be for abolishing ice but they aren’t. Second even if they all said they were no one would believe them if they again funded ICE while saying they want to shut it down; they don’t have the credibility or track record
January 27, 2026 at 1:07 AM
For the same reason that not voting for a fascist even if every other voter does is a moral position—every day this goes on our government is doing this putatively in our names. That’s why you shut it down + (again) make the GOP explain why they won’t make a deal to fund the post office but not ICE
January 27, 2026 at 1:05 AM
It’s also just kinda basic; dems uniting behind abolishing ice/dismantling dhs/impeaching Noem creates a clear contrast. Anything short of it gives the GOP no rhetorical ground but to own and defund the deportation agenda

Like it’s weird that the smart politics knower set think otherwise
January 26, 2026 at 8:04 PM
If the argument is “but ICE will still be/is already funded” good luck and god bless GOP reps and senators carrying that message back home for midterm campaigns.

I don’t see how Dems can say they want to abolish ICE then give them more funding because to not do so wouldn’t strictly defund
January 26, 2026 at 8:01 PM
Again, I think there’s an actual moral stance that is worth taking that any government that commits these atrocities should be shut down.

I further think it’s good politics based on voters penalizing the president for a shutdown

And good policy in that it makes GOP defend funding ICE…

This handwringing isn’t about encouraging big tent politics. It’s about demanding elite opinion never be challenged even when it spectacularly, dangerously, obviously wrong. And if you were born post-1980, there isn’t much elite opinion has got right in your entire fucking lifetime.

Plenty of people have expressed regret and reassessed past positions, including one the chief neocon hatchet men, who is currently more radical about fed law enforcement reform than any sitting democrat in congress
January 26, 2026 at 3:05 PM
already dead dot fucking gif
January 26, 2026 at 2:57 PM
I have one core political conviction and it is that anyone asking for a vote should be willing to stand on a stage and let people throw rotting fruit and vegetables at them
January 26, 2026 at 2:50 PM
It’s never happening if democrats can keep finding excuses not to commit to it as a political and policy goal
January 26, 2026 at 1:23 AM
Do you think “incrementally reform ICE from the minority” is either good politics or good policy?

I think shutting down the government is good politics (voters hate/blame GOP) and good policy (they’ve eviscerated ‘good’ depts and use the husk for cover)
