It's a monumental day as I've just penned my first Substack post. So what am I talking about today? The importance of comps when you're pitching your story.

I can hardly believe it's been a week already (!!!) since I returned from beautiful Germany. It was such an inspiring trip, which I think will sneak into my new WIP somehow.

Usually the start of the new year is exhilarating for the ol' work in progress. But I've recently been on the struggle bus writing-wise. Until a friend stepped in with an important reminder.

Want cake but don't want to bake? I've got you.

I was SURE this was going to be the Ina Garten recipe that didn't work out for me. But alas, the mocha icebox cake was a gem. SO yummy and easy and a now, a book club favorite.

Enjoy the Cake Without Actually Baking
Even though Ina Garten has never steered me wrong, I was still skeptical. A cake that sets up in the fridge overnight with absolutely no baking involved? Hmmm... Well, it's true. And her mocha icebo...

Cooking has always been my favorite creative endeavor that doesn't involve writing. So it only makes sense that I write about what I've been cooking, right? 🤣

My latest culinary adventure involves giving the humble baby potato a tasty glow-up.

The Humble Potato Gets a Glow-Up
Is there really a bad way to eat a potato? Except for maybe raw? Mashed, fried, gnocchi-ed (I just made up a new word), hashbrown-ed (there I go again), it's all scrumptious. But if I had to choose ...

A friend asked me the other day where I found out about the books I read. Great question. Just wrote about that in a new post. www.christabanister.com/my-tbr-pile-...

LA has always been my happy place. There was nothing better when it was -20 in MSP to hop on a plane for a press junket and be greeted by sunshine, palm trees, and 70+ degrees. I have so many incredible memories there. Brokenhearted for the nightmare the community is enduring now. Sending love.

I used to feel pretty meh about the turkey on the Thanksgiving or Christmas table until I made this recipe with the leftovers.

What's your favorite way to zazz up turkey?

Even Better Than the Real Thing
As the centerpiece of many holiday tables, it could be worse. Yes, as the one who doesn't care for prime rib, pork loin, or duck, I'm fine with turkey. Basted with truffle butter and herbs, it's not ...

Well hello, Bluesky. Nice to meet y'all at last. ☺️

I'm the writer-y, reader-y sort fueled by cold brew. I write fiction where Italian food is practically a character and daydream about where to travel next. Cooking is my favorite form of procrastination. I wear a Cheesehead 💚💛🧀 many Sundays.
