In the 1960s, we had 200 millionish citizens and 2.5 million civilian federal employees.
Today we have 340 millionish citizens and…. 2.5 million federal employees. Same number of people for 140 million more people to serve.
That’s efficiency.

I keep seeing people fight the complaints about tariffs by saying “do [job/production] here and pay people a living wage”
The very thing they haven’t wanted to do for hospitality/restaurant/transportation/cleaning, etc industry workers for decades???

It could be an aging parent who needs nursing home care, whose significant nest egg has been drained after 20 years of retirement. Or it could be a 26-year-old adult child who can’t be covered on your health insurance anymore but is not yet making much money or perhaps it’s a severely disabled child
Was just teaching a paper that showed that more generous state Medicaid programs reduce poverty and increase savings.
This is especially important given the growing share of the population that provides caregiving for older adults & may rely on long-term care- for which Medicaid is a major payor,

Parenting is so odd. One second you’re telling this mini human that they are indeed your favorite person, the next you’re calling them a raccoon because they live in absolute filth.

The quality of the reporting on this has been disappointing, to say the least, with only the most basic understanding of what the National Archives does.
