We intentionally built @theupfront.media to put longform readers first. The first feature articles on theupfront.media are approaching 4,000 words. We’re immensely proud of creating a place where reading a fifteen-minute deep-dive into aviation isn’t just informative, but enjoyable and relaxing.

I highly recommend 5B4 (it used to be a blog, but is now on Patreon) posts on photography and books. Here's the latest one looking at Nightsun by David Deutsch, a book that explores LA's reliance on helicopters for law enforcement.

According to Google Flights carbon emission calculations the 787-9 emits around 15% less co2 than the A350-900 on a similar route like SFO-SIN. Not sure this adds up.

These most recent photos were shot on a Nikon D1, a 2.7 MP digital camera. It shot tiff files. The files are quite interesting, not flat, not too much contrast and they don't have that digital feel.

It’s 2025 and I still come across PDFs, where I am expected to squint and zoom to read. I can’t search, I can’t see the pictures properly. I don’t want to flick through pages. I want to read. We have known this for well over 15 years and yet here we are.
