ACIP meets today to review the childhood vaccine schedule. With more vaccine skeptics on the panel, expect tough questions and fresh debate. How should policymakers navigate science vs. skepticism? [Source: The YLE Team] What's your biggest concern? https://www.facebook.com/reel/738832578613779/
4.5K views · 154 reactions | Today, ACIP—the external advisory committee that guides U.S. vaccine policy—meets to discuss the entire childhood vaccine schedule. There won’t be a votes this time, but the committee is now filled with several long-time vaccine skeptics, so we’re expecting a wave of confusion and familiar false claims. So here are a few things to keep in mind: ✔️The schedule protects kids as early as possible while spacing doses for the strongest immune response. ✔️Kids don’t get “too many vaccines” and it’s simply not possible to overwhelm your immune system. Children get about 54 doses over 18 years, and the total antigens are tiny compared to everyday exposures. ✔️Hundreds of studies confirm the safety of individual vaccines and common combinations. ✔️Ingredients like aluminum have been studied for decades, including a recent study of 1.2 million children that found no evidence of harm. And if all this feels like a lot, don’t worry, we’ll be back with Cliff notes once the dust settles. If you want a deeper breakdown of the claims likely to appear and how to respond, comment “Prebunk” and we’ll send it your way. Love, The YLE Team | Your Local Epidemiologist | Facebook
