MRes at Birkbeck UoL. Studying the 'puritan Christmas ban' and origins of Father Christmas. Not Santa Claus. They are different dudes.
Each year I am unwrapped from tissue paper in November before being carefully placed in the attic on January 6th.
An interesting short read on why the great men theory is for losers.

Why the people who actually drive history aren't in the textbooks
In an inteview with Big Think, the historian Anton Howes argues that the socioeconomic forces driving history didn't just come from nowhere.

Looking for somewhere to eat in Newark, saw this plaque, did a double take, ordered the cheese on toast.

Love that I saw 'Master Bates' as marginalia in a pamphlet I was looking at so thanks to the OED I now know that the verb 'to masturbate' originates in the 19th century.

Took inspiration from the Bridgerton team for tonight's Georgian inspired outfit. Modern makeup, half arsed attempt at Gerogianish hair, dyes and patterns that wouldn't have existed and a mixture of daywrar and nightwear.

My Christmas hot take of the year; they should refilm The Holiday except when Jude Law asks Cameron Diaz how she feels about foreplay she should slap him around the head and tell him that millenials deserves better than this and that Andrew Lincoln shit.

I tweeted this in April and cannot remember anything about what the hell it meant. My only clue is that in April I was studying the 1650s. Bollocks.

Love this wee fact.

When they made this book into a movie they subverted the Santa Story to make him a cockney (Mel Smith in the English version) living in the suburbs. I can't think of any movies which have deviated from the established story (North Pole, Elves, reindeer, sleigh) in recent years.
Can you think of any?

Don't want to be that guy BUT one of the earliest references to Christmas was a complaint that it had lost its meaning.
Complaining that it's not what it used to be is older than Christmas trees, Mince Pies (with meat in) and Noddy Holder.

The days of nativity plays and paper chains are long gone – say hello to Elf on a Shelf, dressed up dogs and far, far too much Michael Bublé
