New roles reset your reputation to zero. Build trust by solving sticky pain points, not just interesting problems. Create measurable wins others can point to.

I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural #scienceandsuds in support of @cdls-ucla.bsky.social this past Monday. I had a great time! Spending the evening learning about pumas and pearls, and having great 1:1 conversations was a great change of pace. Im looking forward to the next one!

It's tempting to run back to back meetings, but you should avoid it. Context switches can be taxing, and you need to be at your best. That little cup of coffee between major meetings can be a game changer.

I've been having painful convos with various CSRs all week. It's clear with some I'm not being heard. I want to get mad, but I won't. There's no point. I know "me", but from their perspective I'm some amalgamation of everyone else they've dealt with before. Understand and navigate that context.

If you are wondering why that one minimally competent coworker seems to stay on top, the answer as to why is likely social capital. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your perspective, organizations are made up of people. Social capital counts. Don't neglect it.

Some conversations are tough. A change of venue can change mood and mentality. 1:1 convos over coffee or on a walk, or really in any venue that isn't the office, can facilitate dialog and unblock progress on difficult issues. Try it out next time you are stuck on progress with a person or project.
