Well eff. Having had the pleasure to work with these folks I can say the are not only talented but genuine and kind. I really hope they find a place to continue their work.
There were layoffs at MS yesterday and 3 #Python core devs from the Faster CPython team were caught in them. If you know of any jobs, please send them their way:

The US Dept of Energy has slashed 16% of admins overseeing cleanup of the old Hanford nuclear-bomb-making factories.

WA District 4 voted by a 21 point margin for Trump. So, you know, the majority of them voted for this.

The empathy struggle when cuts hit WA’s Trump country
They're squealing east of the mountains about the federal job cuts and the disruption caused by tariffs. One awkward question is: Should we care?

No matter how long I'm in tech one constant is someone mailing a list with 'subscribe' or 'unsubscribe' expecting anything to happen.

It’s that time of year. Celebrating #TwinPeaks day at Holy Mountain Brewing. They always set up a nice vibe and do a few special releases for the occasion.

Plans show presale is so different than the experience trying to do Transatlanticism show. Got through the artist presale without issue. Looking forward to seeing the fellas in Seattle in August.

Down in the desert this weekend for CVMA at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway. Wind picked up but it’s much warmer than Seattle. Also first time I’ve been here for CCW track direction.

I for one am surprised that the manchild that got upset his jet was being tracked also wants his intergovernmental activities not subject to FOIA and is asking folks to stop using Slack. Okay, not that surprised...

Somehow my morning is full of folks saying we had to install this administration as the previous one was ruining our economy. What’s the chance they know the USA has one of the lowest inflation rates globally? By all measures they’d done an outstanding economic job.

But their eggs y’all.

In the infinite wisdom of the Seattle Kraken the seats we are in are handing out wine and kettle chips. RIP the beers we bought before heading to our section.

Is there anything more Washington than offering free pours of cab?

At this point, it's really just an IPO with extra steps and a less elastic market. These later series seem to be debt financing and opportunities for engineers to sell shares to institutional investors.
If you’re hiring your first five engineers and you tell them you’ll be still private and raising a Series J in twelve years, how many would walk out on the spot?
Data analytics startup Databricks closed its $10B Series J, announced in December 2024 and including investment from Meta, and raised $5.25B in debt (Paul Sawers/TechCrunch)

I don't get to talk about what I do Google nearly as much these days, so I love to share when I can. @sethvargo.com and Seth Rosenblatt put together an article that pulls the curtain back a little bit, showing how we operate Google Cloud at Google scale.

Outside of tech I also race motorcycles. This weekend was the WMRRA awards banquet and I did alright on the season. I only did half of the rounds and performed well enough in them to finish in 2nd and 3rd in my classes. Hoping to spend a season on the new platform (Aprilia, see how
it shakes out.

It's that time where Spotify reminds me what I listen to. One fun callout: the Home EP (Ben Gibbard, Andrew Kenny).

You should check it out if you haven't. And despite the lyric the AI picked for me to symbolize this you won't be wasting your life.

I generally keep regular hours, but working with folks around the globe means being flexible on availability.

This said the greeting this morning of "don't have anything better to do?" was not expected.

Nor was my response of "I could be eating my breakfast in peace."
