Friendly reminder that when, say, the dot com or the housing bubbles burst it didn’t spell the end of the internet and housing, it just fucked over all the little people whilst big corporations grew ever more powerful.

Also the US economy is almost entirely propped up by the AI industry right now.

I think Sam is spot on. Ads are usually just a hindrance to what I’m actually trying to find or do. Of course, we know he’ll add them anyway as soon as he decides they’re profitable and his products have enough of a monopoly that users won’t leave.

I hate Zuck and this was a terrible idea, but I kinda wish more companies were willing to invest in batshit crazy ideas just to see what comes out of them.

Most these companies are so boringly safe and stale in their agenda of only ever putting the shareholders first.

I think taxes on non-essentials like alcohol, vapes, and multi-million pound houses are a lot better than taxes on fuel that for many people is necessary for getting to work, supermarkets, and generally living their lives. If it’s an environment thing, then tax based on engine size or fuel economy.

I don’t really see this as “front end culture is broken” but rather “hardware, browsers and internet speeds are magnitudes better than they used to be so people now do a lot more with them.” It’s amazing seeing what can be done in a browser these days!

Doom being 2.48Mb is still wild though 🤯

Mostly just whether there’s anything that seems worth investing my time and effort into learning. Like which tools are moving towards the top of usage charts and becoming popular that I haven’t used yet.
