The Rig and The Swarm did this story way better than #TheWarBetweenTheLandAndTheSea The former two had an eldritch quality about them. The latter is an on-the-nose execrable exposition storm.

Pillion. An arresting insight into a sub/dom gay subculture. Not sure what it was wanting to convey other than possibly a journey of self discovery. While it didn’t feature ‘sudden gay death syndrome’, it did nod to that tired trope with ‘sudden gay disappearance syndrome’. 1/3 #FilmSky

Rob Reiner, the legendary director and actor who rose to prominence in 'All in the Family' and went on to direct classics 'This Is Spinal Tap,' 'Stand by Me,' and 'The Princess Bride,' was found dead in his home alongside his wife.

And another! Stories and interviews with the team behind one of the BBC's greatest ever TV dramas – "a revenge thriller, a mystical nuclear-and-environmental-apocalypse fable, a clear-eyed political document of the mid-1980s, a ghost story" – by me for @thequietus.com thequietus.com/opinion-and-...

Quatermass and the Pit (1967) Shown as part of Derby QUAD's Quatermass Event. One of my favourite British films. Always worth seeing on the big screen. Genuinely chilling in places with a no-holds-barred, batshit crazy freak out ending. Simultaneously of its time yet ahead of its time too. #FilmSky

The Quatermass Xperiment (1955)
Quatermass II (1957)
Shown as part of Derby QUAD's Quatermass Event. These films aren't cinematic in the slightest and their shonkiness was laid bare on the big screen. Still, they rollick along at speed, have a charm, and don't outstay their welcome.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Another enjoyable addition to this series. Lots of LOL gags amid a sparky script. Something was missing though – the suspects seemed thinly drawn & the film felt oddly underpowered. Still, once again, very clever & twisty.

The Thing with Feathers. Imaginative take on the journey through deep grief. Not sure if it entirely worked – was it a horror film? I enjoyed the crow man but felt he should've been more in the shadows and more done to make his physical existence more impressionistic. Great perf's from the cast tho.

The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. V readable brick. I enjoyed this a lot despite its cartoonish characters & repetitive plot. The cathedral building details were fascinating – following the development from Roman to Gothic styles. Highly immersive & violent jaunt thru the mid-1100s.

Excellent exhibition of Wes Anderson-obila at The Design Museum. While Asteriod City isn't a fave of mine, I did love its mid-century modern design; including these to-die-for vending machines. #FilmSky designmuseum.org/exhibitions/...
