After Colombo’s death in 1974, a plaque honoring him was placed on the Galveston seawall. The natatorium (indoor swimming pool) at the Texas School for the Deaf was named in his honor in 2006. His story is used in anti-discrimination cases to advocate for deaf individuals in lifeguard roles. /end
