Also like idk what the fuck should I do with her backstory....
From what I remember the KKHTA story wasn't really planned and I think it shows best with Sanae, cuz I think she is the ONLY ONE that has an actual backstory that could maybe tell you why she is the way she is

Koishi starts a big a confict by accident and the lunarians take the opportunity since everyone is busy with said conflict to try to make everyone in Gensokyo insane so they kill each other and then invade Gensokyo and take control or just finish it off because they felt like it

Can't explain it too much but basically:
Sanae is fuckin' racists against youkais and thinks they should all be killed, but she specifically hates Kogasa because she tried to live along with humans
Sanae thinks she is just doing that to avoid getting exterminated, which pisses her off like a lot
