Oak living on the ledge at the southern end of Conamara national park today. At 335m, anyone else see oaks at this elevation here?

Great spot for exploring yesterday in sna mám toirce. So many beautiful lichens and mosses (would be worth a trip for a lichenologist). One of the highlights was this beautiful Douinia ovata which looks to have last been recorded in Conamara (beanna beola) in 1965

Without a doubt, she is the candidate with the vision, passion, and energy to bring us towards Unity!

Suaimhneas síoraí ar a anam Gaelach. 💚
B’ambasadóir é Manchán dár nglúin féin agus duine a bhí lárnach san athbheochán a tharla ar na mallaibh sa chultúr agus sa Ghaeilge. Sheas sé i lár an aonaigh agus thiocfadh a rá nár chuir sé é féin ansin ach gur chuir an pobal ann é.

Ina bhealach séimh féin, chuir sé i gcuimhne dúinn fán ról atá ag an teanga maidir le tuiscint níos doimhne a fháil ar an cheantar thart orainn agus orainn féin.

Mairfidh a oidhreacht i meon fiosrach spreagúil na nGael agus iontu siúd a théann sa tóir ar shaol níos doimhne agus fíoraithe.

Suaimhneas síoraí ar a anam Gaelach. 💚 Perhaps unwillingly, he was the foremost cultural ambassador for our generation and instrumental in the resurgence of Irish language and culture.

He gently reminded us of the role the language has in understanding our surroundings, and knowing ourselves.

His legacy will live on in the curious minds of the Irish and beyond, in those who seek a deeper and more fulfilling life.

So sorry to learn that Machán Magan has died. You certainly showed us the relevance of the past for the present; cf. your bestseller 'Thirty-Two Words for Field. Lost Words of the Irish Landscape'. 'Ireland in Iceland' another intriguing title. #Machán your enterprising & free spirit will be missed!

Still interested in any expert confirming squirrel and not other rodent/mammal

Would normally say its a squirrel seeing this in a woodland.

BUT

This is in an isolated woodland complex 20km away from nearest population of reds with treeless landscape between.

Anybody able to shed some light?

Was glad to find (fairly confident on ID) Polytrichastrum alpinum - decent sized plants/apical cells of lamellae papillate. Fás garr go maith go bharr Binn Bhán sna Mám toirce inné. Also seen Raco lan sporophytes for the first time - reminded me of candle holder from beauty and the beast 😄

I take this back partly, not in the same area but records from coill na Forbacha which is believable. Quiet a lot of scrubby fields between the two places also and not a huge distance

I wouldn't be confident on signs of squirrel but if I am right in my assumption of where you are here there are records for the species there on NBDC maps (I have seen one up the Tuam road in Galway city)
