As a fan from the very beginning I feel cheated. Lady Mary was a strong independent Woman, who played by the rules of Society. But those rules didn't dictate who she was. There is no way she would ever get divorced, nor would Henry Talbot divorce her after fighting so hard to marry her .

Don’t bother with the second film. She makes some offhanded comment about him being missing at something to do with the car dealership. It’s a one off and frankly, I think it was put there to show that they were having problems in their marriage, opening it up for him not to be in the third.
