Back in the day, we smoked in the bathroom to avoid socializing in high school. Not sure that was better. High schools are not friendly places for those who are different. Phones provide a socially acceptable way out of socializing. Lots of kids use all their energy to get through classes.

100% agree. In addition to providing housing and support, we also need to be asking what are the structural, or “upstream” problems. While housing is a start, we need to investigate and address the causes.

It also ignores the fact that many “grandmas”have been knitting since they were teens and young adults. They just happen to be women who are now older - maybe actual grandmas, maybe not. It’s become such a pejorative term in many situations.
