On a recent return trip to the Netherlands… I was reminded of the variety of food available in this country… I remember speaking to a young lady who, in extolling the virtues of her town of Haarlem Netherlands, said she only knows of one Dutch restaurant in that town. NL= Variety, & deliciousness.

In An interview Anthony Bourdain once said that all of the chefs he knew, when asked if they could only have one country’s food for the remainder of their lives, which would it be. He exclaimed that all of them said, Japan. Oishi!

I have a small watercolor notebook into which I put a variety of things including my Hawaiian designs. I just finished this one today.

On a recent trip to Joshua tree in Cali I was inspired to draw a whole cactus… Most were left behind at restaurants & coffee shops for others to enjoy… This one, at a popular place known as “the Dez.” They have a really cool local vibe.The art community in Joshua tree/Yucca Valley is very vibrant.

I’ve decided to create a small watercolor book which I’m calling Hawaiiana Volume 1. It will contain about 40 of these drawings.

As I continue my two year long journey into art, I am inspired partially by my heritage and partially by a love for Hawaii, I am doing numerous pieces in watercolor with Hawaiian iconography….

This is one of my first pieces. I sketched in pen & used watercolor to finish it.
