It isn’t a grand strategy. It is reality.

I can’t argue with you at all on that. All we can do is hope. I do think PMMC would gain TONS of cred if he pulls off a decent deal with 🇺🇸. Then he has some major leverage to start addressing other important files.
citizenkeen.bsky.social
We also have to realize that, what, 40% of voters either don’t believe in climate change, or they concede that “something” is happening in our environment, but they don’t want to sacrifice anything or be inconvenienced while we address it.
citizenkeen.bsky.social
PMMC can’t do anything on climate in a 4 year term if he’s not elected.
citizenkeen.bsky.social
You said it much better, but that’s my point 👍.
citizenkeen.bsky.social
I agree. But the 🇺🇸 situation right now is more important. That’s undeniable.

Maybe the 🇺🇸 relationship improves within a few months and PMMC can start looking at climate more. That’s what I’m hoping.
citizenkeen.bsky.social
I agree. But the 🇺🇸 situation right now is more important. He’s got his priorities straight in year one. If he’s doing nothing on climate in years 2, 3 and 4, that’s a different story.
citizenkeen.bsky.social
Sorry, but he can’t do anything about the climate if he puts it at the top of the agenda and gets the cons elected. That’s a fact. And cons would do nothing on climate in a 4 year term. Maybe they even go backward. Can you say that about PMMC after a few months? No, you can’t.
citizenkeen.bsky.social
He’s not a career politician so why did he want to get elected? He doesn’t need the job, right?

Perhaps he realizes that the current moment does not demand a full court press on climate change. I’m not saying he’s right to ignore it, but he definitely was reading the room properly.

I bet they’re thinking “what a wonderful country” today 🙄.
citizenkeen.bsky.social
Apparently this pipeline is the key to Indigenous prosperity 🙄. This woman will say anything.
citizenkeen.bsky.social
Yeah, THIS is why she wants a pipeline 🙄

“This wealth would equate to hundreds of billions in govt revenue that could be used to support core social programs such as health care and education, bolster 🇨🇦 national security commitments under NATO and unlock economic prosperity for Indigenous Peoples.”
citizenkeen.bsky.social
For anti-vaxxers and science haters, yes.

Oh come on now, this is when PP’s Calgary high school debate club skills would come to the fore! He’s been waiting 20 years to unleash his international trade acumen!

Imagine the slogan blitz he’d unload on those poor 🇺🇸 saps.

It is tough for many in 🇺🇸 who have been brainwashed to believe that they live in the best country in the world. That’s why they dismiss our health care by rambling on about our high taxes, which they know nothing about. And they somehow think we are less free, when, clearly, the opposite is true 🙄.
citizenkeen.bsky.social
It really is.

That story infuriates me. They were warned, but they fell for the conservative free market babble. So caught up in ideology that they couldn’t see their undoing coming. The “free market” is great until it eats you alive.

And now they want the govt to step in and do some socialism🙄.
citizenkeen.bsky.social
For sure. I’d argue that our system would be better off directing people to health care options that don’t necessarily require a doctor (at least right away).
citizenkeen.bsky.social
🇨🇦 appears at or near the top of countless country rankings, while 🇺🇸 does not.

I have a bird’s eye view into 🇺🇸 and it astounds me that they live next door to us, yet tolerate their deep societal flaws. But of course they know so little about us, and what they do think they know is often hogwash.

Many Americans are clueless about Canada and what our taxes pay for. They've had it drilled into their heads that we pay a lot, and get nothing in return for it. It's up to us Canadians to set the record straight...which you're doing. Let's keep educating Americans about their Canadian neighbours.
