this one's personal: governance wonk; rural regional public prof; sf/fantasy/comics/anime nerd; golf otaku; ex-pitcher/point guard/union goon (still HELU/CAHE); newly empty nester; mostly harmless Hawthornist; “radical, hate-mongering hater”
I’m your constituent and I want you to melt ice for good. No more thaw/refreeze cycles. #whenweshovelwewin

All my Bills chore energy is now devoted to #IceOut

Literally

When we shovel we win

This is not a metaphor

Another couple of inches of overnight fluff wouldn’t usually be worth mentioning, but I’m running out of easy places to put it! Still was able to extend the ice-free zone and throw down some ice melt before heading into my morning briefings and meetings! Just say no to ice! This is not a metaphor.

When you shovel you win!

Believe me, I understand you’re shoveling under conditions not of your own making and you have to make judgment calls on how far you try to extend the ice-free zone given the time and resources you have. When I went out tonight, I built on what I accomplished this afternoon after another 2” fell.

Let me share the first rule of shoveling from 16 years in a snow belt, @schumer.senate.gov @kirstengillibrand.bsky.social : when there’s a break in the storm, get down to pavement and salt the hell out of it. Otherwise you get worse ice during thaw/refreeze cycles. Let the sunlight be your ally, too

Coming from the Southtowns, there’s a certain standard to be maintained up here.

Super pretty night for making sure we can get one car out of the driveway, but laundry is done and I’m busting out the snowblower tomorrow for the back end of the driveway!

I will go to my grave insisting my dryer’s victory song is cute, even though I just realized it is the same exact song as the one my annoying washer plays
January 25, 2026 at 9:48 PM
Was going to make fun of my Samsung “4C” for its inordinately long victory song on completing a load, but then I realized (1) given its batting average, it should celebrate every hit; (2) Broncos/Pats so boring I’m down in the basement waiting for my washing machine to finish, so joke’s on me!

Not pictured: my 12-plate Kura Sushi order!

The warmth before the storm! Soaking in all that “highs in the low 50s” I can while it lasts!

Walked around DC for hours waiting for somebody to run by me and say “On your left”
January 21, 2026 at 3:25 AM
Winter freeze is coming but keep in mind ice eventually melts in DC

Just repeat a few times to the tune of the Bills Shout song. (This would be funnier if I could post the correct number of pics, I know.)

The pigeons here are built different. At least this one is. The others flew away to avoid me. Not this one. Waddled a few steps over. Respect

Come on! There’s a classical cover of a Radiohead song playing while I refuel after wandering around most of the Capitol.
