Relatedly, the Xbox controller has become the de-facto standard for PC controller gaming. (Presumably because of Microsoft's initial driver support on Windows, though these days typically every controller is compatible.)

Any thoughts on what impacts that might have or have had?

One of Xbox's legacies is the cementing of SEGA's layout, with the A and B buttons swapped from Nintendo's established standard. (Sony initially left it up to devs, but eventually aligned to be like Xbox).

Was that decision too innocuous to matter in the long run, or is there more to it?

May I register some gently negative feedback? I know some people aren't disturbed by meat, but for food at least it's a personal choice. Does it make sense why it would be hard for the rest of us to watch the next Map Men without feeling tacitly complicit in the killing of that animal?

Local music! Yay!

Although, by now the in-game soundtrack is so impressively deep that it will be a while before I feel the need to expand it myself. But I am very glad that I will be able to! It will extend the usefulness of this app considerably.

For Cheapy, Shipwreck, as well as listeners: Now that Wombat has a PC, what games do you recommend for him that he wasn't able to play before?

I enjoyed this discussion! It was neat to hear that Adam likes Groove Salad on SomaFM too. Surprised to make it all the way through the episode without hearing about Bandcamp! I prefer buying directly from artists. Most of my favorites are there, as is Lofi Girl (who runs the Youtube stream).

Not to get too sentimental, but what is a good life lesson you three would each say you've learned from each other over the past 20 years? Big or small, gaming related or not.

Someday those will be worth more than Beanie Babies and Pogs combined.

Universal Paperclips is a fantastic game and I recommend it to everyone, but it is not the source material. Both the game and the comic are referencing a poignant philosophical thought experiment by Nick Bostrom from 2003.

How depressingly plausible.

In other news, not every day you get to see a typo on SMBC. (Check the alt-text)

No question, just wanna say thank you for keeping the show going all these years. Been listening since coming across the show on iTunes two decades ago. Cheers!

Do each of you have a favorite "chill" game to play while listening to a podcast or watching a talk show? Games that don't demand 100% attention, without time pressure, and audio not vital.

I've enjoyed Powerwash Simulator, but I've finished it and need recommendations.

One thing to try would be wandering around the actual location in Isesaki the lab was based on. It looks quite different now (the house itself was demolished), but perhaps the neighborhood will offer inspiration?

Their descriptions have a lot of flowery, nonspecific language that could have been written by someone with just about any ideology? I read their whole website, and I still couldn't tell you whether they are progressive left, moderate center, or conservative right.

Thank you for the update!

Since you asked, I'd wish for a style that's short but flairs out. Like OG Hinata's hairstyle:

What game is this?

I watched a showcase called "The game awards for games who can't afford The Game Awards," it was put together by some indie devs here on bsky. TL;DW still a 2-hour marketing showcase, but for me it had a much higher wishlist-rate than TGA. @tgagwcaga.bsky.social
The Game Awards for Games Who Can’t Afford the Game Awards
We love the Game Awards but we’re struggling to pay rent. Showcasing and celebrating the amazing indies that also have no money for events!

Real Chicagoans wouldn't have done that to you. Can we gatekeep the gatekeepers?

Unless... wait, that means I... might have to think this through.
December 17, 2024 at 6:45 PM
I'll push back on the implication that Chicagoans get pissy about this. Of all the places I've lived, Chicago has been by far the most welcoming and un-gatekeepy region. I feel like in general Chicagoans openly accept anyone who wants to consider themselves a Chicagoan, and I love this city for it.

Cheapy, you recently mentioned enjoying Rainbolt videos. I'm a fan of these games too, and play on Geotastic.net often. Would any CAGs be interested in playing together?
