Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents attempted to enter the Ecuadorian consulate in Minneapolis on Tuesday, prompting the country’s minister of foreign affairs to file a protest with the U.S. Embassy in Ecuador. A video of the incident was posted online. It shows staff inside the consulate rushing to the door to prevent the agents from entering. “Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!” one man exclaimed. “This is the Ecuadorian consulate. You’re not allowed to enter.”

India & EU sign "mother" of all deals while the "father" of all tariffs is left holding the bag.
India and the European Union have finalized a long pending landmark trade deal, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday, as the two sides seek to hedge against fickle ties with the US. After nearly two decades of on-off negotiations, the deal will pave the way for India to open up its vast and guarded market to free trade with the 27-nation EU, its biggest trading partner. “Yesterday, a big agreement was signed between the European Union and India,” Modi said. “People around the world are calling this the mother of all deals. This agreement will bring major opportunities for the 1.4 billion people of India and the millions of people in Europe,” he said. Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are expected to make a joint announcement at an India–EU summit in New Delhi, along with the details of the deal, later on Tuesday.

CNN reports: Tuesday marks one year since a measles outbreak started in West Texas, and there have been new cases in the United States each week since. Texas reported more than 760 cases — and the deaths of two children – before declaring the outbreak over in August. It was the largest outbreak the US had seen in decades, and since then, other large outbreaks — one in the upstate region of South Carolina and another on the border of Utah and Arizona — have amassed hundreds of cases each and continue to expand. The first two weeks of 2026 have been some of the worst yet, with exposures reported at schools, churches, restaurants, shops, airports and more. The continuous spread of measles over the past year leaves the US at risk of losing elimination status, which the country has held since 2000.

CNN reports: The richest people on the planet are far more likely to be in power politically than everyone else, Oxfam’s annual inequality report found. Some 74 of the world’s 2,027 billionaires held either executive or legislative government positions in 2023, giving them a 3.6% chance of holding office, according to Oxfam’s study, which was released Sunday. By contrast, the average global citizen had just a 0.0009% chance of holding office. “This year’s report really shines a light on the relationship between political inequality and economic inequality,” said Rebecca Riddell, senior policy lead for economic justice at Oxfam America. “The fact that billionaires are 4,000 times more likely to hold office than you or I underscores just how much outsized power billionaires have.” The Oxfam report, which draws on data compiled by Forbes and other sources, is timed to coincide with the kickoff of the annual World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland, an elite gathering of some of the richest people and world leaders. Its release also comes as billionaire US President Donald Trump marks his first year in office. Trump has assembled the wealthiest cabinet and team in modern American history, with multiple billionaires and multimillionaires leading government agencies. The administration, along with a Republican-led Congress, last year enacted a sweeping domestic policy package that included big tax cuts for the wealthy and historic cuts to the nation’s safety net program. In addition, Trump is attempting to strip union protections from a sizable share of the federal workforce, as well as dismantle consumer protection measures and corporate regulations. “A billionaire-led administration has pushed a pro-billionaire agenda that has taken the US to the brink of extremes in terms of in terms of inequality,” Riddell said.

An anonymous person in Florida has registered the domain nazis.us and redirected it to the Department of Homeland Security’s website in an apparent protest of the Trump administration. As of Thursday evening, the URL that sounds like it would be the homepage for U.S.-based Nazis does still redirect to dhs.gov when entered into a web browser. According to GoDaddy’s WHOIS database records, nazis.us was registered on Jan. 13 by someone with a mailing address in Florida. Mediaite reached out to the registrant through the contact form on Wednesday but has not received a reply.
