Tamar Mearakishvili, a Georgian civic activist, has been released from prison in Tskhinvali, the Georgian State Security Service confirmed to several media outlets. According to the SSSG, Mearakishvili is now in Tbilisi-controlled territory.

Georgian protesters have turned to loud marches in downtown Tbilisi as police continue to prevent them from blocking Rustaveli Avenue. Police officers struggled to control movement of groups of demonstrators as they paced through narrow streets.

Poet Zviad Ratiani was sentenced to two years in prison after Tbilisi City Court Judge Giorgi Gelashvili, in a last-minute decision, reclassified the charge from assaulting a police officer to a less severe “resistance, threat or violence” against an official.
