It is with the most profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Kiah Duggins. Kiah was our colleague, our friend, our mentor, our inspiration, and an extraordinary civil rights leader. She was kind and brilliant and full of laughter, joy, and energy.

It is with the most profound sadness that we at Civil Rights Corps mourn the passing of Kiah Duggins. Kiah was our colleague, our friend, our mentor, and our inspiration. She was kind and brilliant and full of laughter and joy and energy. She dedicated her life to fighting for the liberation of Black and all oppressed peoples. She believed deeply in the moral and strategic imperative of partnering with social movements and the people most directly harmed by the injustices of our society – specifically the injustices that pervade the court systems, police departments, jails, and prisons of this country. And she lived her values everyday, striving to support us all in becoming more thoughtful, clear-eyed, and courageous versions of ourselves. The survivors of state and corporate violence whom Kiah represented knew and felt her deep love and respect for their lives and dignity. This generation has lost an extraordinary civil rights leader. Rest in power, Kiah. Kiah’s family has requested privacy. It is with their approval that we issue this statement in honor of Kiah’s life. Those who would like to support the Duggins family and honor Kiah's legacy should consider donating to Kiah's Princess Project. We're hiring: Investigative Fellows - Summer 2026 Investigative Fellows work collaboratively with case teams in support of complex civil rights litigation in federal and state courts. Their work varies and pulls on the skills of an investigator and paralegal, and will often involve working closely with and supporting local organizers and their campaigns. This marks the latest case in our series of civil rights lawsuits for the last decade that have freed 100,000s of people from illegal jailing. Wealth-based jailing separates families, destroys lives, causes catastrophic financial harm to communities, and makes everyone less safe.

New — Mahmoud Khalil's legal team says ICE & private prison contractor GEO Group are refusing to let him have a contact visit with his wife & newborn baby.

They traveled over 1500 miles — hoping Mahmoud could see and hold them for the first time since his arrest over 10 weeks ago.

The officials cite a blanket no-contact visitation policy at the Central Louisiana ICE Processing Center (CLIPC) and unspecified "security concerns" relating to the presence of a mother and newborn baby in an unsecure part of the facility. ICE's refusal comes after multiple requests from Mr. Khalil's legal team that point to federal policies explicitly encouraging contact visits between detained parents and their ies tie the act iths children. Mr. Khalil's team has also noted that permission for family visits like these are routinely granted at facilities like the Elizabeth Detention Center in New Jersey, where his attorneys have requested he be transferred. Mr. Khalil's wife, Dr. Noor Abdalla, traveled over 1400 miles from New York to the Central Louisiana ICE Processing Center (CLIPC) in Jena, Louisiana, bringing their newborn child in the hopes of a contact visit - one where her husband could meet, touch, and hold his son for the very first time. Instead, facility administrators have repeatedly denied these requests and have insisted the visit proceed behind glass, where no human touch is possible.
