For me, it has been used/ represented as a term only for the MAGA/ GOP. Trump uses it as they are the only patriots. So it has soured with me. It has nothing to do with the dictionary meaning.

I’ve watched the Kennedy Center Honors for so long. It was always such a wonderful tribute to deserving recipients. They couldn’t pay me to watch it now.
