I’ve always been a fan of requiring the popular vote + a plurality of states, or something like that. Similar in concept to the electoral college but without all the unnecessary boilerplate process and lack of transparency.

As a Republican from the Obama era, I can assure you that’s not true. Not nearly as much of one or nearly as widespread, granted. But there was still an element of it in a lot of circles.

Right, but that model has to get trained somehow. It’s fair to complain about Google opting you into it. It’s not fair to complain that you don’t get to reap the benefits of it if you’re opting out of contributing to it.
