To be completely transparent, when the parliament goes into Urgency it will continue one sitting day across multiple days until “urgent” business is completed. This means there is less sitting days.

After a parliament term concludes, the official number of real days gets published.

Hey Pete

I added the percentages of each govt to tell a more consistent story!
Yesterday I posted about my new web tracker of how often the parliament has gone into Urgency this term. #nzpol seemed to appreciate it and this evening I added a way to see the percentage of bills passed under urgency by each parliament.
The results are interesting!

Heya! Thanks for pointing this out.

I’ve only just started posting properly on BSky and never considered alt text when posting images.
If you’re referring to the website, I’ve made sure it is completely screen reader friendly. Definitely something I always try to prioritise!

I’m aiming to add the data from 2005-2017 on Boxing Day so will let you know when that’s up so you can draw some comparisons.

I’ve added the past two parliaments to nzpt.cjs.nz/historical
Unfortunately older data isn’t available as readily, but I’ll work on it.

I’m also going to add ratios (Total bills considered vs bills under urgency) for each Parliament to help paint a better picture
Historical Data
The NZ Govt has passed 104 bills under urgency! How does this compare?

Well that’s interesting!
It wasn’t supposed to come across as criticism, I just haven’t really used BlueSky much.
There definitely does seem to be an active community!

definitely not fussed about feature requests lmao

Ooh I can definitely look into that. Would only be a one time job to work it out. Not sure how far back the records go but I’ll work on it this arvo and let you know!

You can also see the 104 bills that were put under urgency in one place now (nzpt.cjs.nz/bills).
All these bills had at least one stage put through under urgency.
Is 104 urgent bills excessive? #nzpol

Yup! Corrupt could be a word one may use to describe the current state of the 54th Parliament…

Glad it’s of use though! Was a bit worried my efforts could be wasted!

I definitely agree, I also think Urgency should require more than just a 50% majority, perhaps 70%? No coalition is going to get more than 70% of the vote so would definitely require a genuine emergency.
Urgency has uses, but 104 bills is insane to me, hence I made the tool!
