Since most constructed organs aren't identical to any other model it's normal to have no real standard "what should I buy?" which is probably why this is a niche enthusiast space. You can't really get the "wrong" product. Anyways, thanks for coming to my talk on whatever that was.

The church organs I have available to me are different. One is a 2 manual electric with two expression pedals and a suite of pistons and digital presets. The other is a 3 manual wood keyed electric powered mechanical pipe organ where the third manual is a coupler instead of a choir (it has no sound)

in the US we use 32 note AGO curved pedalboards. in EU they historically used 30 I think? The straight profile has more of an emphasis on toe work than heels. A trained organist should be able to play on anything though.

assuming you don't need a music stand, bench or expression pedals, the cheapest 2 manual no pedalboard setup you can get is ~$600
pedalboard is another $1500-$2500 if you're not buying a $100-$500 midi pedal conversion kit for the old church pedals you salvaged from who knows where.

I've been saving for a digital piano for 6 months I'm at about $300 / $1000, I know very impressive. I wonder if I'll ever be able to afford this?

My home practice keys are a 37 key mini synth and a 25 key mini midi co troller. Ironically they feel a lot like electric organ keys in weight but idk what a mechanical one feels like yet. I’d like to change that soon.

At what point in studying, practicing and playing the organ for personal pleasure can I call myself an Organist? Is it a skill check thing or is it just a self actualization thing. Am I an organist? When do students start being players?

I was doing research on what the most reasonable hauptwerk home setup with off the shelf parts is and it’s like $3000 for a home studio digital organ and you’re still dealing with software drm for the stops. Three times digital home piano price, but also pretty cool

I sang for 2 hours. That was the most marathon-type thing I've ever done. And a lot of moving around too. Not dancing just making sure not to fall down stairs.

I mostly just play hymns and anthems and carols though. Being in a choir gives me a lot of free repertoire without having to spend my evenings scouring google and IMSLP

Someone left behind Buxetehude books at the organ and I figured I'd at least try some passages slowly and it wasn't that hard once I concentrated. The binary nature of the sound means I can hold the notes indefinitely until I find the next keys to press. Most of my playing is by touch now too.
