What I'm still pondering is what is wildness? While a horse, she seemed more human than ever because of that anger she couldn't let go of. #bsueng490

I didn't know if the child would make it to full term, this was a good surprise. I'm glad there's someone to care for it after Alexia's passing. #bsueng490

There are a lot of horrific scenes here where she lights the bloody clothes on fire and attempts to lock her dad in his bedroom then goes on the run, showing the complex identity here. Embracing identity is great, trying to kill and harm others is not. #bsueng490

Why did she bite her nipple so intensely and then walk away angry when the other woman reacted to it hurting, after she threw up? I'm curious if this is related to her stomach problems- OH WAIT is she pregnant? #bsueng490

The contrast between getting in a car accident, which tends to be a traumatizing experience caused them to kiss it after stitches. I didn't expect that response and the connection made to dancing on cars to earn money after that event is a shocking parallel. I'm invested so far. #bsueng490

I would not recommend the cyborg manifesto to my family members because they are a traditional Christian Filipino Family. However, I would definitely recommend The Wonder to them because I feel that they would be able to understand the nuances, and may peak their interest. #bsueng490

How despicable can this man be? "Now Bob grins a little. He looks pleased with himself: maybe he thinks Verna is blushing with desire. But he doesn’t recognize her! He really doesn’t! How many fucking Vernas can he have met in his life?" #bsueng490

Honestly, this story solidifies why I never want children, "Her body, once her own, now a vessel, an expectation, a duty...” (p. 93). #bsueng490

I love when fantasy is used as a lens for gender and identity. Hopkinson’s use of folklore and speculative elements allows readers to explore real-world issues in a fantastical setting, making abstract concepts of identity and empowerment more tangible. Ultimately, a worthy read for me. #bsueng490

This line stood out to me because of its relevance in most college-age groups, "The pornographic discourse is one of the strategies of violence which are exercised upon us: it humiliates, it degrades, it is a crime against our humanity" (295). #bsueng490

"Humans must be killed before they kill us" (43). I understand why even in a Khoush aircraft the Meduse wanted to kill our character, a Himba, because she's human. #bsueng490

Shame is unproductive. I've seen women who have lived a lifetime full of shame. The problem is that it was all internalized, and she felt so much shame that she couldn't verbalize it to another. This is the tragedy of womanhood, and silence is the way it festers. #bsueng490

The tension in Daniel's leadership parallels societal expectations that place emotional caretaking on individuals (especially women), even in settings that claim to be egalitarian. #bsueng490

"This new sexual contract tied women to enjoying the freedom to consume, to earning her own wage (triggering the enormous explosion of the female fashion and beauty corporations), while also offering her the rather nebulous idea of 'consumer citizenship'" (McRobbie 625). #bsueng490

"Lexie’s friends had built themselves a small, hard, perfect circle, with no way in and no way out." The insular nature of Lexie’s group of friends is like a cult. It foreshadows the difficulty Cassie will face in trying to break into the group and find out the truth of what happened. #bsueng490

"I'm glad you stopped," he said... "The pain is so old, Yshwa. I don't even have the strength to want anything anymore. I just float and stare at the sky, and when the pain hits, I arch my neck to keep the water from overcoming my face" Reflecting on the past is burdensome but necessary. #bsueng490

Asughara's care for Ada is seen in this quote, "After she tried to kill me and failed, Ada gave up I didn't enjoy winning that fight. There's no delight in watching her crumble- that's only fun when it happens to other people" (146). I appreciated the loyalty. #bsueng490

I love when Ada tells her part of the story, "I am not entirely opposed to madness, not when it comes with this kind of clarity" in chapter 9. Really highlights the technical medical diagnoses and how they're trying to alleviate her pain, versus her own connection with the Gods. #bsueng490

"When Simone de Beauvoir claims, "one is not born, but, rather, becomes a woman," she is appropriating and reinterpreting this doctrine of constituting acts from the phenomenological tradition" (Butler 481). #bsueng490
