84. crush by richard siken

this thing became so oversaturated as tumblrina required reading that i was pleasantly surprised to find there's much more to mine from the known quotes in context, and some of my favourite parts were bits i'd never seen in a web weaving post before

83. carmilla by joseph sheridan le fanu

long overdue for the 14 year old carmilla the web series fan who still lives within me. obviously the predatory lesbianism of it all is, like, Bad And Homophobic, but it's very fun and readable

82. mario kart world

maybe i'm just relieved to get new mario kart as a wii u owner stuck with mk8 for a full decade but i think this is a fantastic entry that does more than the series usually bothers to innovate from the last title. it's a shame the stupid price muddied the conversation on it

81. wake up dead man

really liked this. one of the only murder mysteries i've ever actually solved because it was obvious in the set up of the narrative but i think this is actually a compliment to the film's thematic coherence

80. little women 2019 (rewatch)

sorry i think this movie is perfect and i'm still bitter it got totally snubbed during awards season for being A Girl Movie. gerwig has such a strong vision for the lens through which she sees this story and it's one that resonates with me deeply and profoundly

79. pluribus season 1

now that's television baby!!!! so many positives: stunning lead performance. gorgeous, thoughtful cinematography. not afraid to make you sit with a scene. but what i love most is that it leans all the way into how carol's lesbianism shapes how she relates to the world

78. saving graces by ruby landers

you don't often get romance novels that are genuinely with their whole chests just as much about the profundity of platonic love as romantic love, and i appreciated that a lot about this. i also love how unusually interconnected this series is for a romance series

77. graceless by ruby landers

i liked the way this handles one of its protagonist's deprogramming of her conservative upbringing in an empathetic and refreshingly chill way. but i have mixed feelings about the way the seriousness of her backstory is/is not handled

76. falls from grace by ruby landers

oh i haven't stayed up until stupid o'clock locked in on a romance novel in agessss but this one really nails the drama and the yearning and the heightened cheesy ending of a good slow burn

75. two tickets by ruby landers

short and sweet and deeply relatable. would probably be fun and rewarding to reread in the context of the series it's a prequel to but equally interesting to have back of mind if reading chronologically

74. foundryside by robert jackson bennet

real good fun! i get annoyed by modern Hard Magic System fantasy books that get so excited about the complexity of the system they forget to give the magic thematic resonance, so i liked that this kept sight of that

i wish this was a phenomenon exclusive to anime people but i fear this is just a people problem 🙃

73. assassin's creed 1

i respect the vision and originality for its time, and there is a basic sort of fun to it, but my god this game is repetitive

oh hello! thanks so much for writing wonderful books! ☺️

72. persona 3 reload

i started to dread tartarus bc it becomes so repetitive, but i found the story much more thematically cohesive than p5, the other persona i've played. i also really liked that the party have developing relationships that have nothing to do with you. i NEED yukamitsu to kiss <3

71. ladies in hating by alexandra vasti

this book's title rather oversells the actual amount of hating that occurs in it but it's funny and wonderfully romantic. and love to see tradpub f/f with some properly unabashed horniness!! ms vasti PLEASE write more f/f i AM prepared to beg

70. the potency of ungovernably impulses by malka older

i loooove these little books i could read 57 of them. pleiti's narrative voice is scrumptious to me. i love how romantic the relationship between her and mossa has become by this instalment. can't wait for the next one

69. adventure time: distant lands

back when this came out i only watched the bubbline episode so it was nice to finally actually watch the rest of it. i thought the bmo ep was the weakest, the finn and jake episode was great, and i was surprised by how much i liked the peppermint butler one

68. the celebrity traitors

a real masterclass of reality tv editing. they got handed a goldmine ending but i'm sure if nick had been edited differently it wouldn't have been half as fun a twist as it was. looking forward to series 2 - it's fun to watch celebs take it a bit less seriously

67. mr burton

the best part of this was the quiet tragedy of burton erasing his welshness from himself to become acceptable in the eyes of hollywood. i think i would've liked a version of this film more that focused in more on that than the classic inspiring mentor-turned-father angle
