Baseball's history, one classic game at a time. Using archived news reports, articles, and historical records, Classic Baseball Radio brings you original and recreated broadcasts of games from over 100 years of America's favourite pasttime.
I'll offer this absolute classic from Scottish Football as the minnows take out one of the leading teams.

Another week, another game to explore. Crosley Field welcomes the Los Angeles Dodgers to the home of the Cincinnati Reds. The year of the pitcher is over, tonight's pitchers (Don Sutton and Jim Maloney) are settling in with the new rules, and the first hints of the Big Red Machine are on show.

Just add a stopwatch and a sports headset, then start your recording. Anyone want to try doing color while @ewanspence.co.uk does the play-by-play?
February 8, 2026 at 9:35 PM
Then we have the scorecards. These are used "as live" during the recordings. We have the line-up in advance and can note their slash lines on the day, along with notes on player temperaments and important facts. As we go through the broadcast, we fill in the scorecard to keep us on top of the game.
February 8, 2026 at 9:34 PM
Next we have the Commentators' Notes. Prepared beforehand, this has the league standings at the time of the game, scores from around the leagues, pitcher reports, field notes, trivia, previous series, and whatever we find that might be useful. Also have some tick charts for progress and editing.
February 8, 2026 at 9:24 PM
First up, we have a copy of the play-by-play (big thanks to @baseball-reference.com and #retrosheets as always). Not everything is recorded in these older games, so we use our own procedural generation engine to fill in the gaps.

Everybody starts somewhere. For Hall of Fame right fielder Enos Slaughter, that would be with the Cardinals on Opening Day 1938. Five days later, he faced Cardinals legend Dizzy Dean, recently signed by the Cubs. Listen to our recreated radio broadcast of the game at open.spotify.com/episode/6viZ...

Name a random #Pittsburgh #Pirates reliever.

Glen Spencer (Can you tell I've just done some research on the Pirates in 1930?).
