I think this is about her reelection bid in the 2026 mid terms. She wanted to run for the Senate, but bowed out when it was clear she doesn't have a prayer there. She also mentioned a hike in healthcare premiums would affect her adult children.

I may be mistaken, but I thought if back pay is awarded after receiving unemployment benefits, they just ask that the money received be repaid.

The only way he would know a federal employee's political affiliation is if they registered to vote, and if they registered with a specific party. To fire anyone based on that information would be a violation of their First Amendment rights.
