Thakfully Fire Red and Leaf Green don't have batteries, but i get the pain. I do replacements for friends and family cause its easy enough for me. I try to replace them with low profile battery holders then you never have to solder them again.

Heck yeah! And it doesn't even have a battery so no need to worry about replacing one :D

Not nearly the same, but I've been using Backblaze for years for my offsite backups. Better than no backups at all if that's the current situation. Also if you're just backing up, not constantly accessing, large capacity Mechanical isn't a terrible solution with decent redundancy.
