smell IS political. Patchouli is used to describe dank, heady, ruffian sorts in modern pop culture and political spheres yet is has been ritually used for cleansing since its inception. I wonder why that may be such stark contrast to cotton whose scent though marketed as fresh smells anythin

All of this is politically charged language bc we as a species have evolved to use language as such. Languages also evolve with the group using it so it only make sense to believe our language to describe our expierences would be just as political as the language we use to described smell because

Like to go on a bit of a tangent with this, taste is derived from scent. We developed the taste for sour first- meaning we knew the scent of sour first. Why? To know when our food source had turned from edible to inedible. To know the difference between ripe and rotten fruit. Like. YALLLLLLL COME ON

It’s amazing to see!!! And scent being the most triggering/the strongest of our senses is SO important to this!!
