We also hold accounts from residents who fought to improve their neighbourhoods throughout the post-industrial years, in the run up to the Commonwealth Games and into the present day.

A citywide effort like this will help bring even more East Mancunian voices to light.

East Manchester has a wealth of social history that deserves to be heard more widely. The recent exhibition about Seymour Road school, part of which was also on display at Manchester Central Library, showed just how powerful these stories are.

80 years ago today, Victory over Japan Day marked the end of the Second World War. We remember the courage and sacrifice of those who served, and the countless civilians whose lives were forever changed. We honour their legacy, and commit to building a more peaceful world. #VJDay80

It's #InternationalCatDay! 🐱 Meet Luna, our neighbour's cat, though she fancies herself the lady of the manor.

In Tudor times, cats were used for pest control, guarding grain stores from rodents and keeping homes clean. Less pampered than lapdogs, but vital for survival.
