Immunity from legal prosecution and wanton abuse of power go hand in hand. The intent of granting immunity to the military and police under the protection of a Presidential power to pardon is to facilitate extrajudicial killings. This explains the increase in people being murdered by governments.

Each of us can make a small and meaningful contribution to defeating Republican fascism. It may feel helpless individually, but the collaborative efforts of billions of people worldwide will overthrow the billionaires and authoritarian governments. Be conscious that your everyday decisions matter.

It is time to relocate the United Nations out of Republican America, and to dissolve the Security Council. Reform the UN by supermajority of likeminded democratic member states before it becomes irrelevant like the League of Nations before it.

Saw a post about how the last 3 Republican Presidents invaded other countries to gain control over their oil resources. True for Iraq, but wrong for missing the fundamental differences of Kuwait. Each must be analyzed in its own factual context, and not lumped together without regard for law.

Pierre Poilievre behaves like a Republican Party asset. I am thankful that he lost the last election, Canadians really dodged a bullet there. If he was Prime Minister, Canada would be an American puppet state and by now we would probably be complicit in Trump's multiple war crimes.

Canadian values and interests support an international rules based order, in which it is illegal to invade other countries in order to seize their resources. If you won't stand on principle and defend Canadian values and interests, you have no business being an elected representative in Canada.

A lawless world where the strongest states do whatever they want with impunity will lead to catastrophe. The community of democratic nations must restore respect for international law now before it’s too late.

Jonathan Pednault should return to lead the federal Green Party, move to the Saanich-Gulf Islands riding, and run as a candidate there.

Democracies must stand up now for the complete restoration of Ukraine's territorial sovereignty. If we don't stand together against lawless, authoritarian states now, it won't be long until they come after our sovereignty next.

The only thing Elizabeth May should insist on in exchange for supporting the budget is the implementation of proportional representation for the next election. Forget everything else, insist on this one thing or vote no.

How undemocratic of the new Yukon Premier to think that he can ignore the results of the electoral reform referendum. More people voted yes for a new electoral system than voted for your party. You have no legitimacy to ignore the will of the people. Implement the ranked ballot that people voted for

That wasn't the result we wanted, but what a ball game.

Any podcast recommendations for analysis of decisions of the Supreme Court of Canada? There are so many great US Supreme Court podcasts, but I can't find anything similar for Canada.

Republicans are actively dismantling democracy in America, and now conservatives in Canada are undermining our elections and stripping away our constitutional democratic rights. The Ontario PCs are proposing changes to elections in Ontario that weaken democracy in 4 ways. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Contrary to how the Alberta government spins it using the notwithstanding clause shows their willingness to deprive Albertans of their constitutional rights under the Charter when they don't think there will be any political consequences to their actions. Probably won't be the last time they use it.

Canadians must pay attention and learn from how quickly America became a lawless authoritarian state. Allowing hyper partisanship to take control their election administration and justice system has destroyed democracy in America. We must strengthen our democracy before authoritarianism gains power.

The Conservatives, especially Poilievre, look and sound more and more like the Republican Party. If we don't change our electoral system, we are going to end up with a majority Conservative government sooner or later, and given that power they will do to Canada what Trump has done to America.

What has changed to justify the reinstatement by the IPC of Russia and Belarus? Their war of aggression on the Ukraine continues and is getting worse. What is the policy here, if a state just continues to wage aggresive war on another state, we welcome them back if they keep waging war long enough?
