The Gunduwa region is in the transitional zone between the Southwest Australia Biodiversity Hotspot and the more semi-arid interior of the continent. But it's a hotspot in itself, within the centre of endemism for acacias, and home for a plethora of rare & endangered species.

A recent wildflower trip to the agricultural region near home turned up these stunning feather flowers (Verticordia). Usually flowering en masse in spring, there are over 100 species with all but 2 found in south-western Western Australia.
