Last year, I visited the Texas Capitol.

They had statues lauding how slaves were taught useful skills during slavery.

Also statues about the men who died for "states' rights."

But for some reason, the text of the declaration of secession itself was not there.

Do Republican senators understand that Canadians know how to read? If you can't leave the 51st state stuff alone, fuck off.

FWIW, the lawyer in question here has apparently since been shitcanned by the DOJ for pushing back: www.nytimes.com/live/2025/04...

Every day, another reminder that America is no longer a functioning country, and yet the rest of us are subject to their idiocy and chaos.

The OP is right that it's a "photo from Reuters today" in that it's a file photo used in a Reuters article today, www.reuters.com/business/ret...

...but the caption makes clear it's from March 10.

I doubt BC Liquor Stores are wasting shelf space now that they've had a month to adjust.

Your informant may have been thinking of John Turner?

Mulroney did win the leadership of the PCs while not being an MP, but the PCs weren't in power then.

Turner took over the Liberal leadership and the PM office when Trudeau Sr resigned.

Got his ass kicked by Mulroney three months later, tho.

I respect the Liberals getting the Shawinigan handshake guy on stage to trash talk Trump in both official languages, but also, let's get the reveal, please!

Today in DOGE antics: a man learns that the leopards are eating his NWS. (First, though, he has to learn that the thing he really likes is powered by NWS data.)

God bless the people with the energy to educate all those doing knee-jerk celebrations.

Always nice to remember that Canada is subject to the whims of an American electorate made up of people like this.

Am I a bad person for thinking that "Dr. Whynot" is an awkward name in this context?

Neat, thanks! As I started filling it out, I was like: "Man, I wish they had a bit more detail" and was disappointed that the "find out more" link just went to a generic city of Kitchener finance page.

Page 25 of the city budget had some details, though, in case that's useful to anyone else:
