We support @AsthmaIreland call for Clean indoor Air to support the 1 In 10 Irish adults and 1 In five Irish children who suffer from asthma - amongst other measures - call to avoid inhaler poverty and support clean fuel policies to improve indoor air quality in homes.

Clean air can be implemented as in projects in schools in Boston, France, Latvia, and Montenegro confirm.
These projects were implemented to protect children in schools as children are our future and can’t advocate for themselves. ‘ Clean air is a right not a privilege’

To avoid the routine use of surge capacity to treat predictable increases in respiratory illness implement HSA Healthy Air strategies now in high risk settings -schools and hospitals and further adopt indoor air quality regulation for all indoor spaces. Avoiding
cancellations.

Search capacity is the use of beds taken from elsewhere in the hospital to meet ED demand this can often mean cancellation of surgery or urgent care

HIQA states what is needed -is increased numbers of beds in hospitals -not long trolley waits.
Hospital bed occupancy should be maintained at 85% to ensure patient flow and avoid risk of increased morbidity and mortality. Reduce outbreaks +provide clean airflow in hospitals too

HIQA report in The Irish examiners stated Irish hospital now so overcrowded they preached safe occupancy

The Department Of Education needs to adopt a systematic approach to cleaning the air in schools rather than leaving it to individual boards.
A similar approach to the asbestos schools remediation scheme 2006 could be adopted now for IAQ with urgency.

Poor ventilation in schools increases the risk of buildup of CO2 VOCs mould bacteria and respiratory viruses,
Triggering chronic disease like asthma and leading to acute illness.

Half a decade ago, Orla wrote in a national newspaper about the urgent need to improve indoor air quality to reduce the spread of diseases like Covid-19.

And yet, 5 years later, we're in the middle of another (avoidable) Covid surge, with no systemic improvement in building ventilation.

CO2 levels hovered around 1200ppm in the cabin, so lounge air quality was significantly better. The absolute worst air quality was waiting in the car to disembark while cars kept engines running for >10 minutes before actually being able to move. Would be great to see a 'No idling' policy on board.
