Frankly, the reason you should care about the rights of other people is because they're people. Period.

But even selfishly, you need to understand that none of us are free until all of us are free. Minorities are the canaries in the coal mine. You're still on the list, your number will come up.

I've spent this whole year in the "greatest country in the world" trying to save money and dreaming about one day moving to the Netherlands and never looking back.

(I imagine if we actually did this, we'd be well at the point of the working class recognizing the power we have over the ruling class. If our guy didn't win, but we had them both surrounded in a pit, I'm skeptical the next move would be "Golly gee Mr. Putin, you sure got us! Here's the world!".)

Historically, bigots don't like when oppressed minorities make communities for ourselves, and all too often there's horrible stories of bigots decided to do something to correct that perceived affront.

Well, I wish you the best of luck with that. A rural queer friendly village would be nice. I would just advice being careful if you ever get the chance to make that dream materialize.

Some bigger cities tend to be queer friendlier too, Seattle and Portland often being cited as places with a higher than average density of queer people.

Not quite the same thing, but across the US and in some other countries the world over there are affectionately named "gayborhoods" that are districts of primarily queer residents and queer businesses, culture, art, etc.
