One of my heroes died this week.

My love of Beethoven piano works was kindled by Alfred Brendel. His voyage through the 32 sonatas is to witness a great musician put himself at the composer's service so that we may all commune with the outpourings of an unparalleled genius.

Bravo!

Just received the latest volume of Beethoven Conversation Books. Very disappointed with the cheap binding. No longer looks like a set and diminishes pride in ownership.

Why do this to save a few cents? I'd have paid more yo maintain quality and uniformity.

Today's my birthday. Unimportant. But I discovered recently that I share it with the world premiere of the 1st of Beethoven's 5 late string quartets, his Op127.

And today is its 200th anniversary. Those huge opening chords usher in music that I live with constantly.

Guess what I'm listening to!

A lovely email about GoaT:

"A mutual friend gave me your book. It is wonderful. I have just ordered copies for our head of governance and CEO.

"Our MAT has 11 schools each with their own LGB and ideally I would like to give each governor as well as our Trustees a copy of the book."

Here's the most recent review of 'How to be a great GoaT - a guide to being a brilliant Governor or a Trustee'.

It's an ideal stocking-filler for the GoaT(s) in your life!

And if your school or trust wants to say a seasonal 'thanks' to your volunteers, what could be better?
