The wealth tax has been researched and evaluated. I believe the £24bn figure came from a university study.
The current taxation setup obviously does not work, because the richest in the UK are getting richer than the middle classes, let alone the poorest.
We definitely need a wealth tax.

I just watched a bit of Alex Mayer MP talking on the devolution bill, and I couldn't agree with anything she said. Alex appears to be terrified of the situation where elected officials of different political parties would have to collaborate!
