📚 Back to school: a new word for your dictionary!

At our Climate Interventions debate earlier this year, Robert Chris presented his idea of "Cocawki". He led to the question: if we are concerned about this risk, do the existing measures make it vanishingly small? If not, what can we do about it?

Another paper presented "A new paradigm for the Arctic". With insights from 27 academics, activists, and Arctic inhabitants, they present reasons to deepen research in collaboration with Arctic peoples.

"The key question is: how should decisions be made— through evidence or guesswork?" they said.

We're pleased to see geoengineering being discussed in mainstream media today in response to a new paper assessing some of the ideas. On our website, we've compiled some of our thoughts and the links you need to read the paper and surrounding news.

In the lab at the University of Cambridge, Shaun Fitzgerald and Jacob Pantling showed Sky News one idea - one of the many being considered globally - that could help protect the Arctic from climate change.

There's plenty in the news today about geoengineering. Tell us: what do you think?

"We owe it to future generations, to equip them with more knowledge about this", our director told Sky News this morning. "It may well be an option that they would like to consider because we haven't made the progress with emissions reduction."

In case we haven't met yet... we're the Centre for Climate Repair ⛅

We're based at the University of Cambridge and can be found across departments. We summarise our research with the three Rs: reduce, remove, refreeze - three climate actions we think are needed (or at least worth investigating).

Why "remove" greenhouse gases at all?

Prof John Taylor outlines why he thinks greenhouse gas removal is vital to meeting climate targets.

💭 "We have to remove a lot. We have put a lot of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. We have a lot of work to do."

"Let’s be blunt. After 30 years of climate negotiations, we did not deliver the rapid fossil fuel decline needed to avert deep damage," says Hugh Hunt in a new article. "A generation ago it was reasonable to call geoengineering a dangerous distraction. Today, refusing to research it is reckless."
