2/15 Having listened to hours of Kirk's rhetoric, I was most interested in how the 500+ Christians in the audience reacted. The setup was striking: 15 minutes of worship music, then a prayer of offering, before a hard pivot into full-on political rally.

I listened to the audiobooks of Jemar Tisby's "Spirit of Justice" about how Black Christians have stood up for their dignity & rights and then J. Russell Hawkins "The Bible Told Them So" looking at how white Southern Evangelicals preserved white supremacy & avoided desegregating schools & churches.

As a historian this chart is no surprise. But it breaks my heart that extreme nativism, i.e. belief that undocumented immigrants are "poisoning the blood of our country" is strongest from evangelical Christians. The world should know us by our love, not for spouting eugenics. @prripoll.bsky.social
