Not abusing women should be the default. Finding so many prominent men, even some who said the right things and portrayed themselves in the right way, who are secretly creeps is kinda mind-boggling.

The same is true of Sam Vimes. The fact that the City Watch is not just a bunch of thugs with badges enforcing the whims of the powerful depends entirely on the integrity of Sam Vimes. At least it did. By *Thud,* he seems to have created a culture beyond just himself.

I had teachers who prided themselves on being strict and I had teachers who shared their own love of the subject and treated their students like people. I did the bare minimum for the first type and worked my butt off for the second.

In the Terry Pratchett books we meet the Death of Rats, a sort of accidental sidekick to Death himself. The DoR is a rat skeleton dressed in a robe, carrying a scythe. It wanted to ride a cat, but Death said no. Death's own horse is white and named Binky.

I have an elderly cat with chronic constipation. She decided using the litter box hurt and went literally anywhere else in the house. Getting meds down this beast is a no-go. Finally her vet suggested mixing unflavored Miralax in her canned food. Rarely a problem since then.

Hey, I got to 3 aikido classes this week. Lately I've been lucky to make 1. Yesterday I was the only student there and spent an hour working on three moves. Came in tonight and got someone to run them with me before class, and stood there saying, "Now, how does this go again?" Aaaaarrrggghh.
